10 Travel Essentials for Electronica 2024

We’re a little over a month away from Electronica 2024, and time is flying by! In preparation for the 60th anniversary of the world’s leading trade fair for electronic components, it’s time we discussed what to pack. While many travel internationally, it’s good to go over the basics.  

1. Business Cards  

Over 2,800 exhibitors will Electronica this year. QR codes and email subscriber lists are the way of the digital age, but you’re guaranteed to run into someone asking for a business card. As you walk around the booths and marvel at the demos, ensure the experts you speak with know how to quickly get in touch with you with an updated business card.

2. Camera  

A picture’s worth a thousand words! Plenty of unique sites will be around and inside electronica’s sprawling halls. Whether you use your phone’s camera or have a Nikon D3500, don’t forget to make room in your suitcase for one. There is no better way to remember the fantastic demos or other products on display at electronica than a camera.

3. Plug Adaptors and Chargers  

Have you ever been on a long road trip and realized you left your phone charger at home? Double-check your bags to ensure you have the correct chargers for all the electronics you intend to bring. That means chargers for phones, laptops, tablets, batteries, and other electronic items. This is essential for attendees who will also be exhibiting!

For our international travelers, be sure to bring the correct plug adaptor for your charging cords. Germany’s power outlets are compatible with plug type F, the same plug used in most European countries.    

4. Comfortable Shoes

For the first time at electronica, all 18 exhibition halls will be in use by over 2,800 exhibitors for the trade fair’s 60th anniversary. That is a lot of walking! Electronica will only be a few days long, so visitors will only have a short time to discover all the new sights packed into the Messe Munchen Fairgrounds. It is essential that you prioritize comfort in whatever shoes you plan to wear.

Have you ever heard of the Disneyland test? Let’s just say that if your shoes can’t withstand a trip to Disney, they’re best left in the closet. The same rule applies to those traveling long hours via plane.  

5. Electronica and Travel Tickets

Many electronica attendees and exhibitors are visiting from out of the country. While including a passport and transportation tickets may seem redundant, the mad dash to the airport gate or train platform might lead to  

Be sure to put aside your passport and necessary tickets in your luggage. It is essential to ensure they are safe and easily accessible for presentation to airline security and transport staff. You might be out of luck if you lose them.  

6. Refillable Water Bottle  

You’re going to need it to explore the 18 exhibition halls. It is essential to stay well-hydrated while exploring the industry's best. The best way to do that is to bring a refillable water bottle since water sold at these events might be priced higher due to demand.  

7. Laptop or Tablet

We covered chargers earlier in the list; now it’s time for the devices themselves. While the goal for long travel should be to carry light, especially with weight restrictions on airlines, bringing a computer is essential. Many travel to explore new partnerships, and while you can use a phone to access sites, a larger screen makes navigating easier.

8. Travel Cushions

Are you starting to get a theme here? Comfort is key. Traveling long distances can be stressful and uncomfortable when cramped into tight spaces. One way to make traveling less exhausting is to invest in a portable travel cushion for long flights or drives. For attendees flying in from North America, South America, Asia, and other distant countries, finding ways to stay comfortable on multi-hour flights is vital to having a smooth travel experience.  

9. A Notebook and Pen

QR codes and hyperlinks are the way of the future, but if your phone dies or your charger gets left behind, you need something else. With the many exhibitors lining the halls, you might forget which link goes where and which company’s representative spoke with you about their products.  

The best way to keep track is a notebook to write down your, you guessed it, notes!

10. Toothbrush and Toothpaste  

Last but definitely not least, a toothbrush and toothpaste are the items that can make or break a trip. While they are easy to replace, considering how jam-packed electronica is, you might not have the time to run out and replace your missing oral hygiene essentials. Brushing your teeth can be the simplest thing to refresh you after a long day.
